Bear Valley - N. Fork Elk Creek TH

Distance from Boise: Hwy 44 & Hwy 55 intersection: 

Road conditions: Starts out paved Hwy 21 then to FS road with dust barrier the FS road with washboards last few miles.

Directions to TH:Getting to Lowman, take either highway 21 from Idaho City to Lowman or go through Banks, Garden Valley to Lowman [highway 17].  Continue heading north on 21 towards Stanley.  Approximately 37 miles past Lowman on the left is the turn off.  There is a sign that says: "Bruce Meadows, Boundary Creek, Cascade, etc."  You should be on Forest Service road 579.  It is 9.5 miles from the highway to the first junction.  Continue on FR 579.  Do not turn right on the Dagger Falls Road.  At the next Y in the road, turn right.  This will take you to the Elk Creek Ranger station.  Continue on past the ranger station for ~1 mile the road to the trail head has a sign “N. Fork Elk Ck” and is on the north side of the road.
